I would like to provide my students literacy center that is based on a well known author, Dr. Seuss! Dr. Seuss, the author of "The Cat In The Hat, has published many books and my literacy centers will focus on his most famous story, "Green Eggs and Ham." During this weeks lesson we will be focusing on the topic of rhyming words.
I would like to have a variety of centers in my classroom. My centers would consist of the following; a writing center for rhyming, computers, reading, Listening, Puzzles, Sight Words, Games, and a Teacher's Craft Table.
Center Schedule: Students will switch centers every 15 minutes. With the classroom having 7 centers, students may not be able to complete all centers in one day, but will continue the process the next day.

At the writing center students will work on rhyming assignments. These can vary from being cut and paste projects, to writing rhyming words that are seen around the room.

Computer Center:
Students will come to the computer center, which will already be logged onto http://pbskids.org completing a rhyming activity.
Reading Center:
I hope to have a well decorated reading center as the picture above. This center will be used by the students to read stories independently. Students will read the book "Green Eggs and Ham," and find what words rhyme with each other.
Since many students may not be ready for independent reading, the listening center will give them away to still listen to the story independently.

Listening Center:
The listening center will include the story, "Green Eggs and Ham," and students will set down an listen to the story being told. When the students finish the story they are to return to their desk and complete the reading log worksheet.
Puzzle Center:
Students will gather at the rug to put together a rhyming puzzle. Once students have completed put together the puzzle, one assigned student will come inform me that they have completed and I will check there work to ensure they have completed it correctly. If students have made a mistake I will have them check their work and try again.

Sight Words Center:
The sight word center will consist of the words: CAT, BAT, RAT, CAKE, BAKE, RAKE, DO, TO, TREE, BEE, RED, BED, HEAD, TRUCK, DUCK, BAD, HAD, DOG, LOG, HOP, TOP, FAN, TAN, CLOCK, AND SOCK.
Students will read the word, trace the word in the sand, and then write them in their journal.
Games Center:
Students will begin playing the matching game at this center. If a child turns over a card that rhymes with his or her other card they get to keep the cards in their pile, and then the next player goes.
Craft With The Teacher Center:
I believe many students love to get hands-on experience. At this center I will supply students with paper, glue, marker, and paint. Students in this center will make words that rhyme with the first plate(Am) and paint them the same color. Students will work with a total of three different sets of words to rhyme with(am, op, ake). When they have completely sorted the words to their group they then will be able to glue their own words to the original word(am, op, ake).
